Tips and Tricks for a Fun and Safe Family Day at the Pool

Dive into summer fun at one of our 8 Calgary outdoor pools. Visiting an outdoor swimming pool can be a fun and exciting activity for families, especially during the hot summer months in Calgary. However, if you’re a first-time parent taking your young children to the pool, there are a few things you should know to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. In this article, we’ll provide some tips and tricks for visiting outdoor swimming pools with young children in Calgary.

Choose A Family-Friendly Pool

Choosing a family-friendly pool is an essential step in ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for your little ones. It’s important to do some research beforehand to find a pool that caters to families.  Look for pools that have designated shallow areas for children, as this will provide a safe environment for your little ones to splash and play. Some pools even have separate areas for children and adults, which can be a great option for families with children of different ages. Additionally, some of our Calgary pools may have amenities such as water slides or spray parks that can add to the fun for your whole family. View our different pool and their amenities here (link)!

What to Pack

To ensure a fun and stress-free experience, it’s important to pack all the essentials. Don’t forget to bring along cute swimsuits for your little ones, along with towels, sunscreen, and hats to keep them safe from the harsh summer sun. Pack some of their favorite snacks and drinks so everyone stays hydrated and energized throughout your visit. And of course, it’s always a good idea to bring along extra clothes and diapers for your little ones, just in case they need a quick change. By packing these essentials, you’ll be ready to have a blast with your family at the outdoor pool all day long!

Establish Pool Rules

Before jumping in, it’s important to establish some ground rules with your children. Make it a fun activity by involving them in the discussion and teaching them about pool safety. Talk about the importance of not running around the pool to avoid any accidents, and show them the designated areas where they can play and have fun. Teach them about the different depths of the pool and the importance of not diving into shallow areas to prevent any injuries. You can even make it a game and encourage them to point out any safety signs around the pool. By establishing these ground rules together, you can ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Keep An Eye On Your Children

As a parent, we know that safety is always a top priority. All eight of our Calgary outdoor pools have lifeguards that have first aid training. However, these heroes have a big task of keeping an eye on all pool attendees. So, as parents, let’s do our part by keeping our children under 8 within arm’s reach and never leaving them unattended. This not only ensures our kids’ safety but also lets us enjoy some quality time with our little ones.

Take Breaks and Hydrate

It’s important to take regular breaks and recharge those little batteries as swimming and playing in the sun can get tiring. Most of our Calgary outdoor pools offer concessions where you can buy snacks and drinks. You can also pre-pack your little one’s favorite treats beforehand to keep them hydrated and fueled up for more fun in the water!

Last but not least, let’s have fun and make some unforgettable memories!
